I am a Research Scientist at the Institute of Agricultural Plant Physiology and Ecology (IFEVA-CONICET) and a Professor at the Department of Ecology, Faculty of Agronomy, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. My broad-scale research interests focus on the effects of livestock production and agricultural practices on the ecology of grasslands and steppes, the ecosystem sensitivity to drought, and the effects of exotic plant invasions on ecosystem functioning. My sites cover a variety of natural and human-modified ecosystems in the Patagonia and Pampas region of Argentina. I have been an active member and leader of the major ecological international research networks (The Nutrient Network, The Drought Network, and BIODESERT) and played a key role providing a global perspective to these ecological efforts. I built bridges with institutions in North America, Europe and Asia that opened opportunities for early career ecologists from South America. I am the director of the Master´s Program in Natural Resources at the University of Buenos Aires and I am the current president of the Argentinean Society of Ecology.
